You've had the issue, everyone has. The issue is between choosing to pay shitloads of money for a big plant thats awesome from the moment you buy it and the small one which is friendlier to the wallet but not so awesome looking.

Kaikki on kohdanneet tämöän ongelman. Maksaakko jäätävä summa rahaa isosta upeasta kasvista joka on ostohetkestä lähtien tosi hiano vai ollakko ystävällisempi lompakolle ja ostaa pienen pieni kasvi joka ei ole niin hiano.

Well, being a poor bastard like I am I chose the small plant, since the price difference was forty (40!!) euros. Its nice little plant but itll grow over it's coconut stake in one summer. I wanted a bigger one.

So I bough a big (huge) clay pot (7 euros) ant the saucer to it (2 euros) and hunted myself a coconut stake that was half as big as the one it came with (2,50 euros).

Finding a long coconut stake these days seems impossible, they're soo out of fashion.

Koska olen pihi muija päädyin siis pienempään kasviin, hintaeron ollessa neljäkymmentä (40!!!!!) euroa. Nätti kasvi ei siinä mitään mutta kasvaa keppinsä ohi yhdessä kesässä. Haluan isomman.

Elikkä kävin ostamassa ison (valtavan) saviruukun (7e) ja sille lautasen (2e) ja metsästin itselleni kookostukikepin joka on noin puolet pidempi kuin mikä kasvin mukana tuli (2,5e).

Ison kookostukikepin (entinen sammaltukikeppi) löytäminen näinä päivinä on yllättävän hankalaa, ovat niin epämuodikkaita nykyään.

So you start with the basic stuff, cover the hole on the bottom with cloth or newspaper, put some LECA pebbles on the bottom and cover it with a cloth or a newspaper (as I did) and start firing some polyurethane foam in the pot. Polyurethane foam is lovely because it's light and easy to mold when dry. Very messy when not. VERY messy. The coconut stake is held up with some duct tape so it wont fall of get crooked during the time it takes for the foam to dry up, which can be days.

Perusjutut ensin, peitetään pohjassa oleva reikä kankaalla tai sanomalehdellä, vähän LECA-soraa pohjalle salaojitukseen ja siihen päälle vielä kangas tai sanomalehti (itse valitsin jälkimmäisen) ja siihen päälle aletaan pursottaa polyuretaanivaahtoa. Polyuretaanivaahto on kiva, koska se on kevyttä ja erittäin helppo työstää kuivuttuaan. Ennen kuivumista hyvin HYVIN sotkevaa.

Kookostukikeppiä pitää pystyssä jesariristikon avulla ettei se keikkaa tai mene vinoon kun vaahto jähmettyy. Tähän vaiheeseen voi mennä päiviä.

The saucer was basic clay saucer which wasnt waterproof so I smeared some silicone glue all over it to create a fim through which the water can not go.

After the foam has expanded and dried up it's time to take out the knife and hollow it so that the plant has some room for its roots

If you encounter some still-liquid polyurethane STOP and let it dry for another day.

The polyurethane will continue to expand from the hole you made and it will mess up everything.

Try to hollow out as much of the polyurethane as you can without breaking the edges of the middle.

Fill with soil and remove the plant from its original pot and rip off the shorter pole. Use your fingers to carefully dig thru the roots in order to spread it around the new pole.

I like to use the wire to hold up the stems but any binding thingy works.

So why all this trouble just to hold up one tiny plant? Well much too often I see stakes that are crooked because of the weight of the plant. I'm looking for permanent straightness for the rest of the plant's life. The longet the stake is the more support it needs from below.

Mutta miksi nähdä kaikki tämä vaiva vaan yhden kasvin pystyssä pitämiseen?

Liian usein näkee tukikeppejä jotka ovat kasvin painosta ihan vinossa. Itse haen pysyvää suoruutta koko kasvin elinkaaren ajan. Mitä pidempi keppi sitä enemmän tukea se tarvitsee alhaaltapäin.
